6 HABITS that will Change Your Life

In today's world it is so easy to get side tracked. We have so many things going on in our lives and on top of that we are still dealing with the pandemic and multiple news of the world. It can be hard to refocus on ourselves. When we are not focused on ourselves, we focus on other people, and other things like our careers and our personal belongings. As a result, we neglect ourselves and wonder why we are so worried about things not being well taking care of.

Moving out of my hometown put a lot of things into perspective. I started to learn more about myself without being surrounded by family and friends. Even though being away has been beneficial for me, it has definitely been a challenge as well. Not being and living around loved ones is hard, especially when you are not surround by genuine love and encouragement. I realized that I needed to create a path that would give me the courage to practice self-love and also the will to be disciplined. Through the practice of this I also started to learn more about myself.

We all have some type of routine whether it was formed positively or negatively. We all have habits that are normally formed unintentionally. A lot of those habits are formed by what we surround ourselves with, things we listen to, and things we allow in our space. In the midst of being in a new city and a new place, I ended up surrounding myself with people that didn’t contribute to my growth. In the end I found myself in a depressive state and it affected me mentally. I was not being true to myself and open wounds had resurfaced.

I knew that I needed to make a change, so I started with the small things that lead to big wins. And I noticed how my life transitioned in a great way. I know most people go through similar things as well. Life is not easy, and to be honest with you no one ever said that it would be. Here are some habits that help benefit my mental health and that you can start practicing daily.

6 POSITIVE HABITS TO PRACTICE DAILY

1. Cleaning Your Space

2. Meditating/ Praying

3. Reading a Book

4. Listening to a Podcast

5. Practicing Gratitude

6. Speaking Positive Over Yourself

1. Cleaning Your Space

To have a clear mind and a clear vision, make sure to have a clean space. Having a clean space makes you feel a lot better and makes you feel a lot more productive. You can even see what you have around your space. Living in a clean environment is vitally important. It keep germs away and it limits bacteria. A clean home benefits your mental health, it helps you think more positively. I noticed that when my home is clean I feel more relaxed and rested. According to Mildred Sanchez, The importance of regular house cleaning, A clean home is like heaven and it is always welcoming to come to a clean house. It takes a lot of effort to maintain and keep your house clean but it has its own advantages and perks. Sometimes cleaning your own home can feel like a lot, however, the reward afterwards is definitely worth it (Thrive Global).

2. Meditating/Praying

Praying and Meditating should always be your MAIN priority. It should be the first thing you do when you wake up. No matter what you believe in, you should know that there is a higher power from above that keeps you grounded and blessed in a lot of ways. Believe that you are blessed because if you weren't blessed you wouldn't be reading this blog right now. Take time to meditate and breathe. YouTube has a lot of free resources. So doing a guided meditation breathing will help along the way. Some nights before I go to bed I do a 5 minute guide meditation. Afterwards, I feel relieved from the day and I'm ready for bed. Whenever I feel stressed at work or frustrated, I refocus everything on my breathing. I clear everything out of my head, breathe, and continue on with my day in a better state of mind.

3. Reading a Book

The best thing to ever invest in is your mind. Reading one book a month will really change your life. Invest in educational books and things that you are interested in. You will expand your knowledge and open more doors for yourself. For instance, if you are thinking about investing in the stock market, maybe start with a book that is about investing in the stock market or learning the basics about stocks. In this way, you will expose yourself to investing and financial keys in life.

4. Listening to a Podcast

Another great way to invest in your mind is listening to a podcast. There are so many information about traveling, finances, and starting a business. Listening to some good gurus will help you build that motivation, drive, and discipline. I found myself hardly ever listening to music on my way to work now because I am so invested in expanding my knowledge. When you listen to a Podcast you are going way far than someone that constantly listens to music while going to their destination. Listening to a Podcast reflects who you are as a person. Your mindset starts to change and you start to change the people around you. Furthermore, you are able to connect and listen to people of your interest. To start listening to Podcast, start listening to things that you are passionate about and that's going to give you valuable information. You can use apps like Anchor, Audible, and Apple Podcast. There is so much more resources to utilize and starting with Podcast is one of them.

5. Practicing Gratitude

Writing and Saying what you are grateful for is true definition of humility. It instills appreciation and humble reminders of what you already have. There are a lot of things that gets us off our course like social media. Sometimes we look at influencers and other people as if they have it all together. But in reality no one has it all together. It is true that no one post or often talk about their failures. Understand that people go through real life and life does happen. However, look around you see what you already have and be thankful. Whenever a negative thought comes into your mind, always reverse it with a positive thought like what you are thankful for. For instance, that job might not be your dream job but be thankful that you are able to learn from that job. Also, expressing gratitude doesn't always mean saying or writing it. It can also mean taking care of the things you already have.

6. Speaking Positive Over Yourself

Last but not least, speak positive over yourself. There is power in the tongue, so be very careful of what you say about yourself. What you say about yourself reflects the person you are. Like I said before, reverse the negative thoughts with POSITIVE thoughts. Look yourself in the mirror and say great things about yourself, even if you do not believe it. This is a great form of SELF-LOVE and SELF-APPRECIATION. Your confidence will boost up and you will notice a glow within yourself. Even others will start to notice your great confidence and they will respect you. People will even see your worth, especially when you know you are priceless.

In order to incorporate these habits in your daily routine it starts with consistency. Now you will not be perfect trying to do these things everyday, however, taking it one day at a time will impact you greatly. I’m super proud of myself for developing these habits because it taught me what consistency really is and it helped me grow. Even though everyday looks different, I continue to strive to practice these daily habits. You’re not going to always have everything in order and that’s perfectly normal. It’s all about taking baby steps. I hope you take this message and be proactive within your journey of starting these six habits.
